There is no perfect photo, not even in couple photography
Are you looking forward to your couple photography session with your photographer whose style you just LOVE? Or maybe you are going through social media, reading blogs because you want to make sure you have perfect photos? Where your dress, hair, makeup even the pose is just simply perfection? Let me tell you a little secret: there is no thing a perfect photo. I really believe, that the best things in our lives are never perfect, because perfection is never real.
The question is: When you look back at your photos, do you want to see a perfectly posed image, or do you want to smile because it captures the true dynamic of your relationship? For me, love photography is all about capturing those fleeting moments—spontaneous laughs, genuine smiles, heartfelt hugs, and the raw emotions that truly define your bond with your partner.
My personal advice is for you to let go of perfection, and look for reality! Trust me you will enjoy your session way more! Let your photographer give you little fun tasks to do, follow her direction and just enjoy it! You will have way better results at the end that you will love way more, then the idea of perfection.
If you look at social media you will see that 2024/2025 there has been a growing trend of blurry images, natural imperfect poses. I personally love this trend because it is promoting an idea of love, that is absolutely not perfect, as no relationship is. The goal of photography for me is to capture genuine connection in a beautiful way, not to create something that is stiff and fake.
Trust me, let go of the pressure of perfect!
Choose the right couple photographer!
This is one of the most important steps to ensure your couple photography session is everything you want it to be. Obviously you must like the style of the photographer, but that by itself is not enough. You need to like your photographer as well, because how could you possibly relax and enjoy the experience, if you can’t get along well with him or her?
Unless you are choosing someone to capture your wedding, most likely you won’t have the chance to have a long meeting with the photographer, but I will tell you what you can pay attention to. When you message her how is her tone? Is she kind, making you feel relaxed and like you can ask anything you want? Is she willing to help you with choosing an outfit, the location? Is she making you feel like you are her only client? In my personal view, a great photographer will make you feel heard, and she will be happy to answer any questions you have.
How to pose a couple photo?
You might be thinking, "Didn't she say no posed images?" at the start of this article. Well, there's a trick to capturing flattering photos from the right angle that still look natural, not stiff or staged. I personally love using movements like walking hand-in-hand, little dancing, even playfully chasing each other are great ways to add energy and spontaneity to the photos. Micro movements are also great like petting each other’s arms, holding the face, giving small kisses and many other great tools. Instead of freezing in one position, incorporate movements into every session is a huge help, and trust me you will feel way more comfortable!
